No chance. Far easier and acceptable to sell players to raise money than remove the great man's name from the stadium.Mr Irascible wrote:With the news that Manchester City have secured naming rights to their stadium and with the news that the funds from Matt Mills' sale are not to be reinvested is it time to consider renaming the stadium?
I think Mr Mad/Sir John has built a solid business and the idea of a club that is well financed is always discussed elsewhere but the potential injection of funds to the club by changing the name should surely be on the table for discussion?
Even at our level I would expect £2-3m to be possible?
Thoughts?

I am absolutely furious by the declaration that none (as in oxf*rd all) of the Mills money will be made available for future transfers.
If Madejski is genuinely obsessed with the balance sheets etc. he can forego having his worthless name on the stadium. The constant excuse of "we are running business" comes completely unstuck at this one point. With stadia naming rights, we are sitting on an untapped revenue stream that is worth at least a couple of million with the right name.
It's not drivel. If we're struggling for money why can't we utilise other methods to raise funds?Terminal Boardom wrote:1. BMcD has a transfer budget already in placeThe Goat was fed wrote:I was literally just going to start a new topic on this.

john madejski's ego wouldn't allow it, but when you hear him talking about wanting the club to be self-sufficient and able to run itself you do have to ask why we haven't leased the naming rights as well.Mr Irascible wrote:With the news that Manchester City have secured naming rights to their stadium and with the news that the funds from Matt Mills' sale are not to be reinvested is it time to consider renaming the stadium?

We haven't. We've just got one named after a chairman you don't like. That doesn't make it a joke name. There's not a single stadium that's been renamed after a sponsor that's been an improvement.Big Ern wrote:As if we haven't got one already.Rev Algenon Stickleback H wrote: And it'd give a joke named stadium..
that 500k or what ever it would be would help fill the annual deficit and could be the difference in keeping a player or offering him/others an improved contract (500k is roughly 10k per week). as i said, the chairman's ego will never allow this to happen but no it wouldn't bother me if we had another name over the stadium instead of john madejski's. the football clubs income and long term survival is more important to me than a name.Rev Algenon Stickleback H wrote:What would £500k buy us exactly?Friday's Legacy wrote: reading could expect at least £500k a season for what is effectively nothing.
And it'd give a joke named stadium. I mean, would you really want us to play in the Waitrose Stadium so we can sign another back-up defender?
1. BMcD HAD a transfer budget already in place, based on the current financial position. It was then boosted by an unexpected £5m. It was "unexpected" because we had offered him a new contract, which he declined (this would have included a pay-rise) so we went from increased expenditure to increased income.Terminal Boardom wrote:1. 1) His budget would probably be based on the presumption that a certain amount of revenue would come in through sales. Until that sum has been exceeded, we don't have a surplus. The Goat was fed wrote:1. BMcD HAD a transfer budget already in place, based on the current financial position. 2. Correct - which is why talk of "balancing the books" and self sufficiency is complete rubbish. A true businessman buts egotism to one side and maximises revenue and profit.
3. Points 2 and 3 of your argument are completely contradictory. The club is not run as a business if the owner has an opportunity to open up another revenue stream and does not door so for non-business reasons (ego). If we are run as a business, it's not an efficient, maximum production business.
4. All my points have been carefully constructed and make sense and I didn't even have to resort to childish put downs.
