Completely forgot about that. Was going to book trains but prefer to be flexible after the game.
Don't think you do need to be on a train that stops there. I've been told to get a London Travel card to zone 6 and a Return from West Drayton (I think) to Reading to get from Cambridge to Reading cheaper. I specifically asked the guy if its ok to get the normal Paddington line to Reading which doesn't stop at West Drayton and he said its fine.handbags_harris wrote:For the Birmingham run you buy a return ticket to from Reading to Banbury, and a separate return ticket from Banbury to Birmingham NS. You stay on the same train because your whole journey is covered. The cost of the "split" ticket is significantly cheaper, around £10 - £15, than an unsplit Reading-Birmingham NS return.
The only rule that I know of is that when you do this you are required to use trains that stop at the station where you have split the ticket. As all XC trains stop at Banbury on the way to Birmingham you have no worries about that.
IN fwiw.
IIRC it was pretty well half the price AND there were no restrictions on what train you took as it was a standard day return compared to a prebooked advanced saver ticket.handbags_harris wrote:For the Birmingham run you buy a return ticket to from Reading to Banbury, and a separate return ticket from Banbury to Birmingham NS.
