The old Reading club badge

Can anyone here help settle an argument - what do the four colours signify on the old club badge?



Beer, biscuits, bulbs and Reading FC?

Or perhaps colours that the team played in?

They signify nothing other than the colours the team was using at the time. Story was that Ian Branfoot's daughter thought it up on her way home from school one day - that's probably urban myth though.

They don't signify anything; the story goes that the badge was designed by the then Chairman's (Roger Smee) daughter.

TBF, whilst I like it, it's not exactly a complicated design is it

I'd say his daughter was probably 4.

What troubles me is why she was involved in the design process some seven years before her dad had any connection with the club.
