I guess your reputation's preceding you here, RL....Royal Lady wrote:And there's me having my miniscule handbag (that only just manages to hold my phone and a packet of fags) searched "for alcohol" every frikking game.

You can be the decoy for the other people with you who actually have booze on them. Well you could have been until you just ruined it for everyone by all of the above.Royal Lady wrote:Yesterday, I had my little tiny bag with me (just big enough to hold my iphone and a packet of fags + lighter) - I try and go through the turnstile and I'm stopped by a steward. "Excuse me I need to look in your bag" - so I open my bag - which reveals an iphone and a packe of fags, plus lighter. I ask "what is it, exactly, that you're looking for?" "I have to look in your bag" "Yes, but WHAT are you looking for? What do you think I might have in my bag?" "Offensive weapons, spray cans, that sort of thing"
"Really? So, how come you didn't check my husband or my father-in-law?" "Because they don't have bags" "But, all these blokes go in with combat trousers with pockets, etc - don't you think they might have something in there?" "We check everyone" "errrm, you don't, because they don't have bags"![]()
Honestly, do they think families coming through the turnstiles with their bags are going to have them crammed with "offensive weapons" or "spray cans" FFS.
I'll be interested to see how many offensive weapons and spray cans have been found over the years.
So YOU'RE the thug with the spray can.Maquisard wrote:![]()
Yesterday, I forgot to remove one of those mini deodorant sprays from my bag when I left home. When the steward searched my bag at the gate, you'd have thought I was trying to smuggle a nuclear weapon in - she actually jumped back and said, in stunned disbelief, "Is that an aerosol???" I thought I was going to miss the whole game while she lectured me on the absolute criminality of trying to take a tiny aerosol into the ground (I'm clearly such a thug).
But they do only check women's bags. So alcohol in a hip flask should be no problem at all. Especially if you have a tiny handbag to distract them with. Also, I've only ever been searched in the East stand and only at the gate for Y24-26 (which gate number is that?) - you could probably get whole crates of alcohol into West or North.

Commonsense is the word here isn't it!East End Lady wrote:RL - my young niece had a spary sun lotion in her bag for the palace friendly. I did not realise that it was one otherwise I would not have let her bring it. However the officious steward would not even let us put it behind the bar area for safe keeping. Insisted it had to go in the bin. Apparently she might spray it in someone's eyes and then the club would be liable. I got very stroppy with the senior steward over this but did not do any good even when I asked what was going to happen when I sued the club if she got sunburnt because we could not take it in.
It was a bloody friendly match surely some commonsense could be applied.
