A surprisingly high number of people go to football matches because they enjoy going to football matches, and don't necessarily "support" either of the teams playing. I've seen it estimated at 20-25% of a typical crowd.Green wrote:Quite committed neutrals tbf.
Varies by club, but living close to Fulham (who must have a very high proportion of neutrals) I can believe it.Alexander Litvinenko wrote:A surprisingly high number of people go to football matches because they enjoy going to football matches, and don't necessarily "support" either of the teams playing. Plus, if you play the long term game, they may become Royals with time. Everyone has to start somewhere, and not everyone can be a child of a Royals supporting DadGreen wrote:Varies by club, but living close to Fulham (who must have a very high proportion of neutrals) I can believe it.Alexander Litvinenko wrote:A surprisingly high number of people go to football matches because they enjoy going to football matches, and don't necessarily "support" either of the teams playing. Surely it's an inevitable consequence of rising ticket prices that a higher number of people in the ground won't be there every week.
I embrace it, it annoys me when people take exception to it. People are paying money to come and watch Reading, and hopefully enjoying the experience - why should that be irksome?
A few games at Doncaster over the past few seasons have been non-segregated.Green wrote:It'd be lovely if there could ever be a day when fans are not segreg8d but it won't happen in my lifetime.
well I don't claim to be a true Reading fan , but being disabled I can't get up to West Ham, but I have been going regularly to home games now since 2006 and am now a season ticket holder, I regularly talk to a guy who sits a few seats down from me in the disabled section in the north stand and we both get really annoyed how these extra 4 or 5,000 extra fans sudenly started turning up again towards the last few home games. [it was the same the previous season when we reached the play-offs and not surprisingly they very quickly dissapeared again come the first home game of last season. But unfortunately all clubs have these fans who only show up for the big games in the championship like against West Ham or the premiership but can't be bothered any other time.Jackson Corner wrote:TBH What did you expect? 15,000 in the Chamionship 24,000 in the Prem. I have occasionally seen stewards in the north stand chuck out fans of the away team but it doesn't happen very often.you watch the game on Sky you can see people leaping to there feat when Spurs score in the North and South stand. If it was me I would chuck them out and have there cards taken away. But the club would rather take the money.
Valid point, but we haven't averaged as little as 15k for a long time!Jackson Corner wrote:TBH What did you expect? 15,000 in the Chamionship 24,000 in the Prem. These people aren't Reading fans. If people draw attention to themselves, celebrate gaols and antagonise the home supporters they are likely to be thrown out and rightly so. If they don't, then good luck to them - and I speak as someone who sat on his hands in the home corner at St Mary's in April!larry1971 wrote:I have occasionally seen stewards in the north stand chuck out fans of the away team but it doesn't happen very often.
Joke? Many of us have done it at other grounds when we have a big away game and we sell out.RFCSPACE wrote:Joke. People in there with Spurs shirts not even bothering to cover it up.
I have done it myself but I wouldn't wear a shirt or stand if Reading scored.Divvy wrote:Joke? Many of us have done it at other grounds when we have a big away game and we sell out.RFCSPACE wrote:Joke. People in there with Spurs shirts not even bothering to cover it up.
