Greyhound stadium parking

I'm driving to the game for the first time this season on Sat, and wondered if anyone can tell me what time the Greyhound stadium car park has been filling up this season? Would arriving at 2pm-ish be OK? And did they put the price up this season?

No idea, but if you get to Acre Rd for 13:45 you will always find a parking space on the gravel at the end, or in the car park one down from it, same side of the road! Bit of a pain getting there so early, but it's worth it for a handy parking space, and it's free.

Thanks. I usually park by Gillette when I drive, but I'm bringing my 5 year old son and his friend, so just wanted to minimise the walking, especially after the game as we've got to get away quickly.

If you want to get away quickly, don't park at the Greyhound. Mad at the moment. Having littlies in the car entitles you to family parking at the ground. Well worth a try if around 2ish.

I was told by some fella (Reading fan) who has an office there that all the businesses there had received a letter from the council to that effect...

Anyone know if there's any truth in that?

Yep. £60 fines* to all who parked in front of the units down there after the Arsenal match.

Oddly a mate of mine rang up the council to query it, and was told it was nothing to do with them, even though they own the units.


* technically they aren't fines and the only way they can make you pay is to take you to court, an apparently most don't bother to do so. Watchdog suggested taking such requests for payment and making paper aeroplanes out of them, although there is obviously the risk that they might take you to court.

I've actually got in touch with the British Parking Association to see if they are allowed to put up new notices without taking the old notices down first, but no reply yet other than them saying they are going to raise the issue.

Damn annoying overall though, as paying to park now will add another £200 a year or so to watching the team play.

Looks like there stopping parking in a few places. Worton Drive off Imperial way has had a twat of a security bloke blocking the road for the last few games threatening anybody that goes past him with a fine. Not sure who owns the land there though.

I think the gravel car park will be OK, but everyone who parked in front of the units got a ticket stuck to their windscreen, and will probably do so from now on.

The ticket I got was put on at just after 10pm, so it's possible they didn't do all the cars, and ran away before the fans got back.

I might try the gravel car park tomorrow.

I think a load of fans go before 12 and park in the park & ride for free, and go in the jazz cafe. You can get in there at 1pm and find every table has already been taken.


It's just another one of the joys of the Madejski I suppose, the most expensive ground to park at/near in the country.

Sounds like we got lucky then. We left just as Arsenal got the equaliser. Demoralised, but expected, I decided beating the traffic would be more worthwhile that watching the collapse continue.

Hopefully the gravel car park will be left alone. They should certainly put some sign-age up before they fine anyone there, as it's used for the local park as well.

Spaces will be like gold dust now, but as I said, if you get there for half one you should be fine.

I didn't know you could park at the P&R before 12 and then stay there. Not sure I fancy the 3 hours in the bar before kick-off, not sober anyway. But good to know though, thanks.

I'm not sure how happy the club or the park & ride people would be about you doing it, but it still does operate as a park and ride on Saturdays. According to the park and ride website, it's suspended for 3 hours before football matches and 2 hours before rugby ones.

Both the gravel car park and the retail park are both gone. The bastard council have banned both. The business OK, but the gravel car park? Why?? So now it sits unused unnecessarily.

I agree about the stupidity of banning parking in the gravel car park. Considering there are no business units there, it actually means it a car park in which nobody can validly park, ever, at any time.


It's dismal enough having to come to witness an inevitable slide towards relegation, but to have to pay an extra £8 a game now to do so feels like an insult.

I believe that if you're a member of Costco, you can park there during the game without risk of tickets.

I park in green park using the lime square car park a lot do it no problem

Had this issue yesterday, have a ticket to park in one of the companies in there, he refused to let us past against arsenal, then again yesterday tried to stop us but we just ended up driving past him, said we would get a ticket but never did.. not that would of paid a private ticket!

The Twat has moved down the road a bit now so that you can get to the parking run by the guys raising money for Help for the Heroes. That's only £7 so you can save yourself a £1 if you want and know that some of your fee is going to charity. (No EIL)
