Why do the club charge at all for this game? They have already decided to use the stadium. Surely getting anyone there is a bonus.

Surely a perfect opportunity for a goodwill gesture. Come along for free - get one concession stand open - job's a good-un. Everyone's a winner. Possibility of getting more there for the yooooofffff team.

For the WBA youth quarter final last year they got more than a couple of thousand in if I remember.....lower West was completely full, I think that holds nearly 3000, if not more

That would make the figure more like £6K minimum - probably more than covers the salaries of most essential staff, security etc for the evening...

FWIW I bought a ticket online yesterday and there were about 1400 left in the whole of the lower west...

They also have a better idea of how many people will be coming, so they know how many stands to open 9if high demand) and how many stewards and catering staff to get along that night.

Yes, people will still turn up on the night, but at least they'll have a better idea of numbers and save possible embarrassment.

Fair enough. Good point well made. Impressed it is that many for 4th round and last year's big crowd. With reards to others saying they ad to open the food kiosks - well - these pay for themselves don't they. And with regard to the floodlights, my point is still valid. The club have CHOSEN to play it t the stadium, so whether or not there is a crowd, the floodlights will be on.

My point was - where is the goodwill gesture. I am not a ST holder, but think those that are coud maybe get a freebie. What about those who go on away games so far away. Give them a freebie for their loyal support, increase attendance, pies, beer, happy customers, everyone wins!

I didn't spot this ignorant post at the time when it was written.

FA Youth cup rules say that the club must charge for admission, including for season ticket holders, and that £3 is the minimum price for adults at this stage of the competition. Out of the gate receipts come things like the travel and accomodation costs of the away team, match fees and travel of officials. Surplus funds are divided equally between the two clubs. There is a proviso that the ticket price can be reduced by mutual agreement of the two clubs, but what incentive do the visitors have?

Obvious exception to that question is when Manchester United are the away team, as it gives them an opportunity to grow their fanbase in their natural territory (that is, anywhere outside Manchester).
