Both had a more impressive record than his. He was a risk for Liverpool. He got an unfancied team out of the championship, mainly from a team he inherited, bolstered by a striker he got through his chelsea connections. He hadn't managed in Europe or played in the champions league. The only way, for now, is down.

He has his style and he makes players fit his style, rather than adapting to the style of the players, or the ability of the players.

He played pass it football with kick and rush players at Reading and was in the relegation zone with a team McDermott could get into the Prem. At Liverpool he couldn't get his players playing the way he wanted, unless he had Suarez at the front. But then only Kenny couldn't get Suarez playing well.

I thought he was a strange appointment for Liverpool in the first place. Clubs with Top 4 ambitions tend to go for managers with a track record of winning things on a national and European level and they seemed to ignore the fact that at Swansea, he walked into a job where the squad was already set up to play his style.

He clearly a "project" manager and struggles when expectations are high and instant results are expected. There's no doubting his coaching credentials but the big fear for him now is that he's a bit of a busted flush, I can't see too many Premiership teams touching him and I don't think his ego will allow him to take a couple of steps down the ladder to rebuild his reputation, although with his massive pay off, I don't think he'll be too bothered in the short term.

Maybe a return to Chelsea in a coaching capacity or abroad? He always banged on about having jose's number, maybe it's time he actually rang it.
