19 Jun 2017 13:16The last five minutes of the game are the most exciting thing in the world and this is partially because you never know when the final whistle will blow. Why spoil that?Stranded wrote:Actually all seem pretty reasonable to me.
Quite like the idea of the halves being 30mins and stopping the clock. Would probably end up having more playing time than we do now.
This is the only one I have a real issue with - a penalty is really just a freekick and the attacking team should have more of an advantage, not less. Just enforce the existing encroachment rules better.Stranded wrote:a penalty kick is either scored or missed/saved and players cannot follow up to score to stop encroachment into the penalty area - in relation to the above - makes sense.

19 Jun 2017 13:23Why make changes for the sake of it. All of the changes solve non-existent problems. Anything that makes football more like rugby union can only be a bad thing. There is a very good reason why rugby is followed by people who don't like sport, and that is because rugby is rubbish.Stranded wrote:passing to yourself at a free-kick, corner and goal-kick - makes sense, quick restart to a game, could benefit the attacking team
a stadium clock which stops and starts along with the referee's watch - no problem here, everyone knows how long to go.
allowing the goal-kick to be taken even if the ball is moving - no big deal
a goal-kick being taken on the same side that the ball went out on - would stop keepers taking the ball to the other side to waste time, so fair enough
a "clearer and more consistent definition" of handball - think we'd all agree with this
a player who scores a goal or stops a goal with his hands gets a red card - no problem there
a keeper who handles a backpass or throw-in from a team-mate concedes a penalty - bit tough but hardly happens now anyway, so why not increase the penalty for stupidity
the referee can award a goal if a player stops a goal being scored by handling on or close to the goal-line - yep makes sense, no more situations like Suarez in 2010 WC which cost Ghana the game
referees can only blow for half-time or full-time when the ball goes out of play - great, could add some additional tension when the clock gets to 0.
a penalty kick is either scored or missed/saved and players cannot follow up to score to stop encroachment into the penalty area - in relation to the above - makes sense.
I took it as only relating to penalties took when the clock is at 0. If it is a proposed general change then yeah, not a fan.Platypuss wrote:This is the only one I have a real issue with - a penalty is really just a freekick and the attacking team should have more of an advantage, not less. And stop goalies moving off the line before the ball is struck. No excuses for letting them get away with it.
Most, if any, won't happen, but if a change improves the game then great. I don't think many people were fans of the backpass rule when it came in but it has improved the game. In fact, I can't think of a change that has come in that has made the game worse.Handsome Man wrote:Why make changes for the sake of it. All of the changes solve non-existent problems. Wouldn't the excitement just change? Would add some extra pressure on the team losing knowing that time is ticking away and everyone knowing that there is only 30 seconds to go and they need to score now!Handsome Man wrote:The last five minutes of the game are the most exciting thing in the world and this is partially because you never know when the final whistle will blow. Does such a thing exist? I suspect the area may end up looking rather uneven, something likeBR0B0T wrote:change the shape of the penalty area to reflect the % chance

19 Jun 2017 22:12So you would be comfortable with a logic that considered each existing law and looked at what it is there for? A logic that took any law that appeared to be there for its own sake rather than to improve the game and changed or removed it?Handsome Man wrote:Why make changes for the sake of it. Quite. Team A is losing 1-0 in the cup final and have spent the last 2 mins with the centre back playing as an emergency striker so they can lump the ball in from anywhere. Clock hits 0 and they have the ball. They now know they have to keep the ball, try and pull the opposition out and look to create a chance rather than just putting it in the mixer.West Stand Man wrote:Ian Royal wrote:Most are fine, also don't like the penalty one. Once the wining team knows that time is up they will do all they can to get the ball out of play.
If it is a draw then both teams may continue playing but that is a good thing, surely?
