What has made you surprised when you read it about a footballers career

I know he had injury issues but I was watching Original Ronaldo R9 and his videos on youtube

Firstly he was an INSANE player for the time period

Second, I had no idea he "only" played 384 games and had scored 280 goals which is a great rate

Had injuries not stopp him (I think he did not play for about 3 years at Inter), his stats would be been utterly even more bonkers

Can't really think of any in the context of the thread, but Shearer and Scholes both retiring from international football aged 29 was a shame for England.

When I went back and looked at Michael Owen's stats a few years back and realised he really wasn't all that prolific a goalscorer. His highest ever Premier League season was 19 goals, which is not to be sniffed at, but it felt at the time like we had a new goal machine in English football.

Would love to claim it was just 'different times', but as Owen was emerging Shearer was coming off the back of 3 consecutive 30+ PL goals in a season

Was today years old when I found out Tony Cascarino was never eligible to play for Ireland. His parents were English (of Scottish descent) and Italian, but he was adopted at a young age by an Irish family - his early life apparently remained a mystery to the FAI until after he retired.
