After our game on Sunday...

A few of us are meeting to discuss a peaceful protest we're planning outside our ground and during our game v Blackburn on the 29th October.

Anybody interested would be more than welcome to join us.

The main aim of this protest is to persuade our club (and hopefully others) that they should be speaking out, on behalf of their fans, in favour of safe standing areas. Many supporters are feeling increasingly alienated from their clubs as they feel strongly that the somtimes heavy handed enforcement of the regulations have a detrimental effect on the atmosphere that being a part of is integral to their support of their club. Indeed, the two supporters behind this protest have decided that they will no longer attend games at the Boleyn.

Royal Lady - nobody is suggesting you should stand, we're just as much about those whose preference it is to sit as we are about those who'd like to stand.

And if you mean that you think sitting is safer than standing, then why do most German grounds have standing areas? Surely they wouldn't if they weren't safe.

And what do you base your presumptions on?

I thought that it would be terrible sitting down at football when we moved from EP, but you get used to it and standing doesn't appeal to me any more.

I don't want to start an argument but we learned the mistakes of Hillsborough and there is no need to go back. Just accept that terracing is from a bygone era and is consigned to history.

Safe standing would mean the section used at the Madejski for example would have to be re-designed. Not a good idea.

If football could allow a 'safe' way of allowing standing at games then I would most definitely move to that area/stand of the ground!
I'm quite happy sitting and standing as and when I get all excited but nothing beats standing at football.

All seater grounds are not just about safety, they are also about control of spectators, and the fact that it is easier to handle seated spectators.

I find the safest way of standing is to ensure that both of one's feet are firmly planted on the ground equidistant from one's centre of gravity.

But seriously... standupsitdown is a worthy organisation in my opinion and well worth supporting. Yes, we're all getting used to sitting but it's just not the same.

Good question - perhaps its something to do with towels being offensive weapons in Germany?
