With no fixture its time for an informed poll ....or two...

Can there possibly be anyone who still believes that standing under a leaking tin roof, on rotting concrete, with the stench of onions and urine, a bit of noise generated by no more than a 100 yoffs, that sounded loud in their little corner of the ground but travelled no further than the half the length of the south bank, in a stadium otherwise populated with every moaning git in the Reading area who wanted to get away from the missus, their job and their whole misserable existance for a few hours....

or being at the Mad Stad, in the Premier League!

No complaints about a loaded question, just vote.

Madstad, no question about it.
And with the much improved atmosphere of late, I'm happier than ever! But I do miss the standing, being shoulder to shoulder and sweating like a bitch on heat during the warmer months.

Elm Park. I much preferred standing that sitting down - the atmosphere is always so much better when stadning (as WHU away will prove)

My best memories of the last 40 years are from EP still, though the Madstad is getting a few too.

Beating Wolves with two inj time goals
Losing to Wolves in p/o semi

Wigan p/o game

Middlesboro League Cup QF at EP

Oxford in the rain at madstad

3-0 down at ht v Plymouth, winning 4-3

There was an atmosphere at EP, but honestly speaking, only when there were more than 5000 in the ground. Playing against the likes of Shrewsbury on an evening KO with enough room to sit down on the terraces at half time...that was a no no.

That's the biggest thing I miss about Elm Park. It was round the corner and part of my community. I'd give my right arm for one last chance to stand on the south bank, but times have changed. The club's moved on, we're all watching a very different team these days and I wouldn't swap that for the world.

Not to mention the Reading Recreation Ground, Reading Cricket Ground and Coley Park before the move to the Caversham Cricket Ground in '89.

I actually enjoyed standing at Elm Pak but, because I was at the Tilehurst end, I got rained on sometimes so, for that reason, I will say Mad Stad.

All those who really do believe that the EP experience was better than what we have now could always pass me on the M4 and go to watch Swindon instead. You'll get a similar feeling to watching Reading in the old days - and clear a bit of space at the Madejski for my son when he comes back from Uni.
