Standing areas?

Under current licensing regulations the club are not permitted to have standing areas - or indeed people standing.

The top dogs at the club don't want us to have a standing area, and for that reason alone, we won't get one, even if legislation changed.

Maybe it could happen in a few years, when they have finished the stadium extension. I personally would be very happy to see it back.

Is this informed or an assumption as it does not agree with converations I have had with them? Their hands are tied by law not preference. However as JC says the design for the stadium was for seats and it may limit where standing is possible, but that is my opinion not the result of converations with the 'top dogs'.

That shouldn't be a problem!
If you look at how the German's have designed their standing, there will be barriers in front of each row and therefore you couldn't possibly fall forward.
If anything, the Madejski Stadium would offer fantastic views for all those that chose to stand as well as sit.

Although tickets would be about £4 less expensive in the Standing areas surely the amount of space each person takes up would mean room for more supporters, which could increase revenue...

Something to think about IF it is allowed, and if they don't make the capacity the same size.

Sadly not - according the the green guide, standing supporters actually take up slightly more space than seated ones (on account of the fact that they move around a bit more!).

So in any safe standing area that would seat 10 you can only have 9 standing - which is, I agree, a major cost obstacle to the concept of safe standing areas.

Lets face it, current legislation is bollocks, to put it as bluntly as possible.

If they are able to build an upper tier, me thinks they are able to unscrew a few bolts, remove some plastic seats and erect safety barriers in other parts of the stadium.
Saying that, reading the posts so far, me thinks there be no chance.
