As an outspoken supporter of giving supporters the freedom of choice to stand or not, for the record I have just voted "No".

Whilst all supporters are lumped into a single area regardless of whether they want to stand or sit (or if they are even able to stand!) then I can't support people standing.

Those who want to stand exercising that choice impacts too much onto the choice of those who don't want to stand or can't.

Properly designed safe-standing areas that separate each group and give them freedom of choice are the way forward, and that's what I'm campaigning for.

I'm with Dirk on this one - unfortunately in the present climate standing isn't going to happen unless you can get some seats at the back of the stand and have some lenient stewards (Sheff Utd / Man City).

Safe standing areas are definitely the way forward IMO.

In the prersent situation, we don't have terraces in the top two tiers of English football. We can only stand at our seats.

For the record I have voted 'No' on this one, for pretty much the reasons DG has given. At the same time I have voted 'Yes' on Dirk's poll.

"Safe standing" areas are not going to happen, clubs have spent millions on stadia and will not spend more.

It's all down to each club to manage their home and away fans.

United will be 95% standing for aways, so stand it is. Warning when selling ticket, you will be in a standing section. Don't like it. Don't go. It will help get rid of coroprates and women at aways, which is only a good thing.

United at home. Lots of talk recently about having areas where rules are relaxed. Stretford Tier 2 stand all game every game, tier one want to, as does K Stand, but the stewards there are arseholes. These 3 areas should be made stand up only, want to sit at OT? Sit somewhere else.

I LOVE standing up at away games but we hardly get to do it because if one person sits down the whole crowd sits down!!

I noticed that Man United fans were being given leaflets on entering the ground yesterday. Presumably they were advising United fans that they should sit down otherwise they face a reduction in their allocation for future games. Would this be the same leaflet that has been given to them on their previous two visits? The two previous visits when the entire United support stood for the whole game?

Can we therefore conclude that threats to reduce away fan allocations are complete bollocks?

We can inded conclude that. All the evidence shows that these reductions are utterly ineffective - and that the threat of them may, in fact, encourage standing.

It's only the FLA who insist on these being handed out - but, if you think about it, the reduction in allocation only penalises the home club (financially) for something that they have no control over.

Plus of course, home fans have something to lose - being allowed back in for the next match. For away fans, there's hardly any comeback on what they do at away matches. There's no system of reciprical bans or anything like that.
