Taxi from town to Madejski?

Any help much appreciated as I've never done it before...

Any idea how long it takes to travel from Reading Town Centre to the Madstad by taxi, especially how long it may take tonight? How long should I leave?

To be honest, you'd be better off getting the park and ride bus from outside the station - the traffic is generally a nightmare for evening games so you'll be paying Mr Taxi Driver for the pleasure of sitting in traffic...

i've done it in 10 or 15 minutes on a saturday afternoon if its been after 2:30

never missed kick off yet (but been pushing it sometimes!)

sometimes get them to go up basingstoke road (the old A33) rather than use the dual carriage way, sometimes its quicker

The issue with midweek games (and I've been sat on the bus so seen this at first hand) is that you catch the end of the rush hour - on a non-football day, J11 can still be rammed at 7pm so you can imagine what it's like on a football day. That will cause a knock on effect on the A33 and thus cause chaos.

Great shout regarding the old Basingstoke Road though - especially as there is a bus lane that taxis can use all the way from Morrisons to Bennett Road. IMO, you'd be better off doing that and then walking along Bennett Road (should take no more than 10 minutes from the B'stoke Road to your seat) - or get the number 4 or 6 bus and get off at the same place...

I've done it on occasion. Costs Â£10, if you have 4 in the cab then it's same cost as the bus and as previous posters state, along the old Basingstoke bus lane it can be very quick. Even so I would not want to be leaving the station any later than 19.30. If you are so inclined you can ask around in the queue if there's anyone who wants to share the cab.

I get a cab to the Mad Stad for Saturday games. Leave station at 12.00pm and arrive at Jazz at 12.10pm. Normal cost Â£8.00. With tip Â£10. Fill the cab and it's cheap as chips.

I've done this twice for evening games, when I've been arriving back into Reading by train from a meeting or work commitment.

1st time it took 17 mins and cost Â£12.50

2nd time it took nearly 40 minutes and cost Â£18

It's a gamble really and I would get the bus if I was you !

I once managed to get to a midweek game right in time for a 745 kick off despite my train getting into the station at 725.
Managed to get a taxi on Friar St, took about 15 minutes.
