Because of the arrangement between the PL and the FL, if a team is promoted back to the PL after only 1 year, their second year's parachute payment is split between the other teams in the championship - ie. they all get over half a million pounds each the following season. The Burnley chairman has pointed out that this raises an interesting little scenario.

Let's take Watford as an example. What would happen if for their last match of the season - away to Blackpool - they needed a win to be assured of promotion? Blackpool - whose season is over- would know that if they were beaten by Watford then as a result they would get an extra half a million quid the following season. Just how hard would they try to win the match?

That'll be from the Burnley chairman who is vehmently against the payments. Isn't he looking into legal action against them?

TBH, I very much doubt that any club would not try knowing they'll get 500k if they don't....although if Burnley are even involved in such a game and lose....

I think the general consensus on this board is that football clubs can put out whatever team they want in any game and if that is to the detriment of anybody else then hard luck. Something along the lines of "the season is long enough for you to get whatever points you need".

I'm don't think so - I think the unused parachute payment is split across all the Championship clubs, but not those already receiving a parachute payment in their own right.

Makes me laugh when people say that players aren't bothered about games/wont try and win etc when infact the club pays out bonus' for goals/cleansheets/wins etc - so really it IS in the players interest to win a game and not conceed etc.
