RFC Season tickets - cut off dates

My mum is 65 on Aug 2nd, the club wont allow her to buy the concession season ticket as she misses the date by one day. What strikes me is that the season doesnt start on Aug 1st and alot of other clubs start their yearly window on Sept 1st. Seems a bit harsh on my mother who has supported reading fc for over 20 years (ST holder for . She's so incensed that she and my dad have refused to by an ST for this coming season.

Sure, RFC is a business, but this seems really harsh....she will write to Nigel Howe and JM as a last resort....otherwise RFC will lose 2 proper fans.

I bet they will still attend, and then they will be paying a lot more for tickets, as your mum does not become a concession till the following season.

Despite all the comments on here about prices the club seem to have made renewing very good value, under 16 works out at £6-52p a game, I feel sure that compares well with old prices at EP.

ANy changes will affect some more than others, but the club must attempt to change where it feels it should.

Prices as set for the coming season sees the return of 4 games for free, better than what it was in the Prem.

Or if there was a general election they day before your 18th birthday would you have written to the Government asking to vote anyway because you're so close?

I agree with your comments, but I think the issue here is when the cutoff date is. Why isn't it on the first day of the season as on that date she will be 65?

Do the club seem to think that having the cutoff date on the 1st of the month is easier for admin purposes? THe date can be moved each season to fit in with the football calendar.

At the end of the day the club can set the date whenever they want and just as many people will be impacted or benefit from it. I don't know why it's that date. Perhaps it's always been that date, or perhaps it's to tie up with the academic year, so that two kids in the same class at school wouldn't be in different price bands.

But if it's always been that date which I suspect it has, changing it would probably cause someone to complain - and making it move each year would also probably have the same effect.

Pretty sure most club related things have used 1st August as a cut off date.

It's the first day of the month the season always starts in, regardless of when the season actually begins.

As DG says, any cutoff date will see stories such as the one at the start of the thread. There will equally be people who turn 17 on August 2nd but will still get the discount of a kids ticket for an extra year because of the cut off. My b'day is on the 11th August and I certainly was able to take advantage of that when I was younger.

I'm sorry but why should they?

They've had this cut off date for quite some time, it's most probably in the T&C's if you care to have a look.

If they let royalsteve's folks have a ticket they are not eligible for then any stance they have with regards to people using tickets they shouldn't (ie adults using kids tickets) lose all weight.

exactly my point.....she isnt annoyed about missing out by one day...what she is querying is why is the cut off date aug 1st? biringham for example is sept 1st

Considering the academic year cut-off is 1st September, I very much doubt that

But my Mum's birthday is on September 2nd so if they move it to then, she'll miss out by a day (instead of 33 days) and consequently will not be buying a season ticket in the future and RFC will lose a 'proper' fan.

She shouldn't get an ST. Just buy tickets on a match by match basis at the concessionary rate as she will be over 65 when she goes to buy a ticket. She can review the situation in December when the HST go on sale.
