I hope that when this great manager finally moves on that we are gracious enough to allow a thread on The Team, without folk like him, clubs like ours would not be seen as serios, he took a lower club and they competed, simple.

Sir Bobby Robson's warm smile was unmistakable as he was made an Honorary Freeman of the City of Durham yesterday.

Hairloss won't be an issue but if I ever get cancer I hope I can be as dignified, cheerful and downright brilliant as he is.

"I'm fighting, doing very well, I have some small health problems," he said.

"A bit of radiation has resulted in me losing my hair. But I'm eating, sleeping and going to football — I'm trying to get as much enjoyment out of life as I can.'
