This book - launched last Friday to celebrate 10 years at the Madj - was available for subscribers to have their name etched in the back of the book, paying up front for the privilege. Thinking that this would make a nice birthday present, I bought two copies, paid up front and was promised delivery on the day of release (Friday 22nd). Needless to say 5 days later I am still waiting. Was anyone else as gullible as me in subscribing and still subsequently waiting for the goods to be delivered? Only myself to blame of course for thinking that the RFC merchandising department would ever get their act together.

Hopefully my copy is different to the RTG version too; theirs being 256 pages saying HASN'T IT ALL BEEN BRILLIANT! whilst my copy will have a foreword by Keith Scott and is basically a 256 page account of Reading 0-6 Bristol Rovers.

If the Megastore can see their way clear to sending my book by the end of the week that would be absolutely spiffing. No tearing hurry, I really don't want them to trouble themselves at all with trifling matters such as sending me stuff I have paid for weeks ago as I am sure they are very busy ironing KEBE 14 onto the back of dozens of items of Waitrose-bedecked merchandise.

The average level of service a customer is entitled to expect from any retailer.

went down on saturday to the shop,staff were utterly useless which is probably an improvement on what they are usually like!
they said they did not know why we had not recieved our books and couldn't find out but said i should email Andy West, so i did.

he emailed back appologising, saying that there was a problem with the binders and that they had not recieved them themselves untill friday(there is always something that happens beyond the clubs control!!)anyway he is getting both copies signed by Murts and then we can have them!

I expressly told them that i would pick it up from the shop. Me and around 30 others judging by the folder retained unter the counter.

I was told you had to have it posted as well - and I bet I have to pay postage for the privilege of getting it in excess of a week after it was actually available in the shop (watch out all those who have pre-ordered the home shirt).

I didn't realise there was another option. It therefore seems a little unfair to expect all to pre-order and have it sent through the post. When i pre-ordered, and stated i wanted to pick it up from the shop no one said i couldn't. Once again - consistantly inconsistant.

Still not received mine and I opted for the more expensive City Link delivery! (the OS said it was the only way they would guarantee safe delivery!!).

Still, I bet they made sure the Chairman had plenty of copies to sign in WH Smith today.

Sod those who paid for their book weeks ago.

I'll have to think twice before ordering the sequel 'Down The Pan' .

On this subject, can anyone who has had problems with deliveries of stuff (e.g. kit, books etc) they've ordered from RFC by Citylink please e-mail me details of what happened to STAR.Campaigns@btinternet.com. Several people today have mentioned they've had real problems with Citylink screwing up deliveries and I want to find out of this is a general trend.

I do a lot of internet shopping and have to say that, in my experience, City Link are one of the best and most reliable couriers.

Nor are City Link to blame for this delay. The sole reason that my 'A Decade of Dreams' book was delivered so late was that the merchandising dept at RFC didn't bother to send it out to me until Friday 29th August (the date on both RFC despatch note and City Link Documentation)! As a consequence, I didn't receive it until today.

Included with my book was a standard apology for the delay, blaming the failure to deliver as promised before the book went on general sale on a 'delay with the binding of books at the printers which was out of our control'. As Drew_3 so rightly points out 'there is always something that happens beyond the club's control!!'

Even if the printer was to blame for the initial delay, why did the merchandising department wait until a full week after copies of the book arrived with them (Murty was signing them in The Megastore on Friday 22 August) before sending out copies to their customers who had pre-ordered and pre-paid a couple of months earlier?! Pretty P Poor Customer Service to say the least!

No doubt there will still be some who will seek to defend the merchandising department over this. Yet had Amazon (or any other retailer) delivered their pre-ordered copy of Harry Potter more than a week after it went out on general release, they would have been grumbling about that!

Why the fuss? Because once again RFC failed to deliver on their promises and offered P Poor Customer service. I was told I had to pay an extra fiver to guarantee safe delivery and yet it turns out that it would have been quicker and and £5 cheaper to have picked it up from the Megastore.

As for well produced, maybe it's just my copy but the print quality of some of the photos is fairly poor - reminiscent of the early days of the 'Today' newspaper!

Still waiting for mine, but then I didn't pay the £5 extra for City Link. Honestly it is an absolute joke, you expect the club to be able to send out items in good time - or would that only happen in the Premiership?

Still like the regular fiasco we get when new kit is released, why should we expect anything different?

I am never going to use their mail order again.

Mine arrived yesterday. The packet was open and the book has been damaged. I'm not totally pleased with that.

If you paid the fiver for City Link delivery, then according to the Megastore blurb, you should get damaged copy replaced quickly with no problems as City Link will have to cover the costs.

If you opted for the cheaper bad old Royal Snail, you will probably have hope for a goodwill gesture from the club because they will have to leap through all sorts of hoops (or suggest that you do) to get compensation from aforementioned Royal Snail.
