Once again cars not held back after the game

This seems a regular occurence now. Presume Health and Safety a casualty of the credit crunch. Cars streaming down (at speed) Northern Way. The Stewards down by the buses 'only do the buses mate'

Cars certainly were help back yesterday - the problem is that when it's 3-0 with 10 minutes to go so many people leave early that there's a regular stream of cars leaving the car park *before* teh final whistle, which is teh point at which the barriers go up to stop cars leaving the car parks. And, of course, the people who leave a game to get away early are precisely the people who will drive faster to get away early!

Not sure what the answer is, unless it's to stop cars leaving the car parks from 10 minutes before until 15 minutes after the final whistle, and I'm not sure that would be practical.

If it's health and safety or "security" you can do what you like.

As illustrated at numerous grounds around the country (and some demonstrations in the past) where the police have held people back on safety/security grounds.

What's more if car drivers are told that, as part of the terms and conditions of the contract they enter into when parking at the stadium, they will be prevented from driving out of the car park during a certain window of time, they can have absolutely no come back whatsoever.

The reason I questioned whether it would be practical is that you're asking the car park attendants to somehow guess exactly how much extra time the referee is going to add on. It gets even more problematical when you have cup ties with the possibiliy of extra time/penalties.

This was another thing I was going to bring up!! We left after the final whistle had blown and walked round the ground as per usual. As we got back to the East Stand and were about to walk down the hill, a steward was directing people to the RIGHT hand side as you walk down the hill (where there is no pavement) - when I asked why he said, "because the cars are about to come through" - I ignored him and walked on the left, with my elderly father-in-law and walked safely along on the pavement, meanwhile hoardes of people (and I mean hundreds) were still spilling down the hill, yet they let the cars go. I looked at my watch and it was just on 5.00pm. I'm sorry, but pedestrians should take precedence, particularly when there are so many of them. And WHY on earth would pedestrians be moved to the side without a pavement in any case?? Shoddy stewardship - and if it's a club directive - the club need to think again. Cars should be held back until the main group of fans have managed to walk safely down the hill.

The whole transport system at the ground is a complete joke.Games have been going on at Madejski Stadium for 10 years, yet it seems they don't ever learn lessons.Everytime i get the bus to the ground it has 'one off' feel about it in the sense that it never seems organized or efficient.Yesterday i was in the que for the bus and one of the many stewards that stand around and do seeming do nothing broke the trend and walked over to us.He said 'Are they beers? You can't take no beers on the buses" i responded by saying that what he he had just said didn't make any sense.He glared at me and said we were not aloud on the bus.Ok maybe he is only enforcing a rule,but four tins being carried in a bag is not the same as drinking on the bus.

On the way back the steward checking peoples tickets by the bus let the people on in front of me without even looking at their tickets.I know for a fact that one of them didn't have a ticket because i heard her say as much.Seeing how he was operating i casually held out my ticket as i walked in,but he grabbed it out of my hand an began staring at it.i asked him why he had singled me out to which he replied 'i do what i want,mate" I was going to tell him to oxf*rd right off but went and found a seat.

I can't wait until the station at Green Park is open.Then at least people will have a choice of services and Reading buses will be able to seen that there shitty service is not all that great.

What with this thread, the memorial wall, the lack of a minute's silence and the servers in the concourses still taking an age to serve and/or understand what people want - the club have some serious issues to deal with off the pitch imo.

Agreed - it all seems to be falling apart in the last few weeks for no reason I can understand.

Thankfully we are doing the bizz on the pitch.

The club tho DG do really have to take a look at what they do and try to improve, good management is about continual improvement, something that many off the field ares at RFC are sadly lacking in at times, as highlighted so often on here, and other places.

Not really. You just put up the barriers at 4:35, without reference to the ref. The trick is to judge the actual time when people will decide it isn't worth leaving early to beat the barriers - ten minutes might not be enough.

Mind you, I walk down the hill on the pavement, so I'm never really that bothered.

Birmingham used to do this (not sure if they still do, I haven't been for a few years). IIRC, their stewards stop cars leaving from 4.30 onwards.

Do they have to worry about added time? Start holding them back 5-10 minutes before the end of normal time. If there is a lot of added time - tough!!

It's not just down to the club to enforce it...

Driving at high speed around the ground when 15,000 plus people are walking/running away from the ground would appear extremely foolish and also very dangerous. People just need to have abit of common sense and consider other people for once...if you want to leave early then go for it and maybe park up away from the ground and pick up whoever you are waiting for...your choice...I regularly park in the stadium car park and a brisk walk back to the car at the final whistle gets you in a decent position in the queue and the 15min wait isn't a problem...I was home (Lower Earley) by 5:30 on Saturday...

Also what is with all the aggressiveness in the car park...people trying to jump queues and push in front of people etc...just chillout abit FFS...pushing in etc will save you all of 10secs on your journey get a life...

The club could organise the stewards abit better and possibly create a pick up point away from the stadium so those early leavers can clear the car park before the final whistle...
