I want less presenters and more action. Is that too much for a football show to deliver?
I know the Championship has it's knockers but at least it doesn't have an "expert" telling me things I already know or are irrelevant to the action.

Essentially, the ITV highlights programmes are unwatchable live. The only solution is to record them and skip through everything you don't want to see - the five minutes lost because it starts late (usually), opening credits, adverts, rubbishy sponsor promos, trailers for forthcoming non-football programmes, talking about what's coming after the break, review of the day, anything at all with Craig Doyle - and as far as I'm concerned, all the previews, "analysis", interviews, quirky stuff, etc.

After you've done that, you get a 40-minute football show which can be surprisingly good by ITV football standards, when it's not filmed at Fratton Park. And it's worth saying that after years and years of completely failing to understand how to present football, ITV do seem to have made more of an effort this season. Like the (recordable!) FA Cup highlights programmes on Sunday evening and on replay dates, or the fact that they showed highlights of both League Cup semis on the night each game took place. The next obstacle they need to overcome is the one where they believe that no-one wants to see goals from midweek League games.

The answer is that ITV don't use enough ground height camera shots, and they leave cameras on permanent zoom for some of the games they show. This means a viewer hasn't got a clue about the general movement on the pitch .

I like his comforting tones on a holiday show. He just doesn't cut it as a footie presenter. But then I hate all of them really.
