First time Reading match

Hi everyone,

I'm 17, due to pass my driving test this month (hopefully ), and I would very much like to go to the Reading v Brum match on the last day of the season with some mates. As I've never been before, I was wondering if anyone could lend a helping hand and give us some advice on where to sit, where to park etc, and anything we should be cautious of. BTW, I don't live in Reading, I'm up in Northampton .

Um best place to park (i think) is the holiday inn and only about a 5-10 min walk away from the ground also sit int he east stand y26 if you want the better atmosphere...go on the football grounds guide website and have a look on therw

I sit in the East, but I look over at the West stand enviously as thats where the party is tbh. Always where all the songs start, and its sort of like a carnival atmosphere over there.

Tickets on sale now - snap it up fast as the only other option would be the south stand. This is the pit where NO atmosphere exists.

No. I've always been a Reading fan, but come from a family who tends not to follow football much. Now that I will have my independence, I would very much like to watch a match. Simple.

You'll need a member card to get a ticket - so apply for both now before you miss out. You can park at the Holiday Inn or the Hewlett Packard car park - both about £8 I think. East Stand is best stand if you get the option. Traffic is always pretty heavy before games, so allow plenty of time. Can always have a nice drink and a pie in the concourse....

When you arrive at the Madejski Stadium, the best place to park is the stadium car park itself where you can get your very own parking space for the cost of little more than a blow job on the Oxford Road. On arrival, you absolutely MUST visit the megastore to purchase a jester hat, 3x scarves, minikits, miniscarves, the whole home kit, sweatbands, and baseball cap, to ensure that EVERYBODY knows you're a Reading fan. Before you enter the ground you absolutely MUST buy a burger and chips at £5, these really are worth the money, the potato's in particular have a very nice crunchy centre. You must also buy a Golden Gamble ticket and you're absolutely guaranteed to win because you're a non-regular who probably won't get anywhere near the East Stand for this game due to demand. I've not seen a Golden Gamble winner in the East Stand all season. Also, don't forget your souvinir matchday programme full of RFC propaganda so you can be brainwashed into how magnificent a season it has been despite probably only just scraping into the playoffs.

On entry to the ground, make your way to the first bar you see and order a rollover hotdog. Again, these really are a must, although I admit I don't actually know the price any more because I've usually lost my appetite after receiving food poisoning from my chips eaten outside the turnstile. Also, you can have one pint safely of watered down rats p1ss for £3.30, which will assist in washing away the puke burn in the back of your throat from the violent puke you've experienced 5 minutes after finishing your burger and chips. 5 minutes before kickoff you must find you seat and immediately sit down as any standing will be severely punished by ejaculat...ejection from the stadium by 7 yellow jacketed stewards in front of 20k+ people. When you hear "rhythmic" sounds coming from a small minority of the ground, dependent on where you sit you must: clap your hands in time and shout BLARMY at the top of you voice (North Stand), or sit in silence with the occasional berating of Steve Coppell's team selection and tactics (West and South Stand). A simple "fcuk off Coppell you clueless tw@t" should suffice every time a move breaks down. This will happen with alarming regularity.

10 minutes before half time you must leave your seat to go and join the queue for another Rollover hotdog and a coke, enjoying the concourse atmosphere before returning to your seat 5 minutes after the 2nd half started because you couldn't hear the players coming out of the tunnel. For the next 30 odd minutes, do as the first half, and of course when the clock strikes 80 minutes you MUST leave the stadium as you have to go home as your tea will be cold by the time you get home otherwise. When you reach your car you must put a scarf in each front window dangling outside, and one dangling out of your sunroof. Also, place your minikit and miniscarf in the rear window. This will give even MORE people the knowledge that you are undoubtedly a loyal Reading fan, because you spend so much money in the megastore that you can't be anything other! You can then drive home singing along to the new chant that you've learnt, despite the fact you've just probably witnessed a 3-0 defeat to the new Championship Champions.

One tip: save a lot of money for your day, it'll cost you more than a 5* 2 week jaunt to Florida.

Park at the P&R in Foster Wheeler. Free car parking and 3.50 for the bus ride to the stadium. If you arrive early and are fit you can walk it there and then jump on the bus for free to get back (it is all too hectic for them to check tickets).

get to the ground before 12, park in the park and ride car park at the stadium for free, catch the park and ride bus into town, or go into the hotel for a bit of lunch

after the game, straight into your car and off as soon as the gates open

Mate the train is so much easier i live some what near you and train for me from Banbury is a direct one that take about 50 mins. You can then get the bus straight to the ground.
As for where to sit if you fancy "a bit of atmosphere" then sit in the east stand around y26 but that for you to decide and only trial and error can be used to find a part of the ground that suits you.
Anyway we all got to start somewhere so good luck.
