Teams up north just create more atmosphere whereas us folks seem more reserved.TBM wrote:Why is it most southern teams have to have support, for their team, forced.
Free flags at Arsenal tonight, Chelsea often give away free flags too, Reading doing rumblestix and clappers etc. Why? Northern teams have genuine passion for their club and don't have to be forced to create atmosphere especially in big games.

What the sh*tting hell are you talking about? To unravel your mass of garbled syntax, I suspect that you are trying to infer that as the Football League was made up of mainly northern teams when founded in 1888 they somehow have more tradition than the southern sides, thus making the north this fabled hot bed of football; an empty catchphrase northerners wheel out since their industries collapsed and the south east became the power-house of the UK leaving them with frankly bog-all left to be proud of.royalexile wrote:the historical context of supporting a football team in the north seems to somehow have a greater foundation and passion to it.
Rubblestix binned after one game, but then free clappers, i remember kazoos and bits of paper etc to "help suppport the team"....its not the fans fault but if they were generating the noise of the likes of Man Utd, Liverpool, Newcastle, Stoke etc then this sort of marketing bollocks would not be needed. Fair enough Preston might be an exception but i did say "most" not all.floyd__streete wrote:What the sh*tting hell are you talking about? Fact of the matter is that there were plenty of strong southern teams developing the game in England - see the early FA Cup final results for reference, the first ever national footballing competition was dominated by southern sides in its early years - but by 1888 the southern teams tended not to embrace professionalism, hence why the likes of Reading were mere new-comers to the league in 1920. And besides, I have seen Rumblestix only once at the Madejski before they were binned by the (unusually discerning) fanbase; at that southern outpost Preston they have have been banging the damned things on each of my last three visits to Deepdale to drown out the echo of silence. And you don't get really much more historical context than you do at bloody Preston do you?
Have you ever been to Bolton?TBM wrote:Why is it most southern teams have to have support, for their team, forced.

It's sometimes embarrassing to be a football supporter in the South

I thought you might have added aAF1 wrote:w/o reading all the other replies 'bviously its coz people down south have careers, mortgages, holidays, families and other more important things in their lives to worry about
People up north live dull, miserable lives in slums and football is the only thing they have worth caring about.

There are some typical Southern stereotypes on here that actually believe what you wrote and that life only exists in London and the Home Counties.
