World cup venue

Why have the club not offered to be a venue for the 2018 World Cup? Milton Keynes and Portsmouth are in the mix for the south, surely we have a ground able to deliver the required level? Did we miss the letter?

I don't believe we are on the lst of grounds for the Rugby WC bid - St Mary's is the southern ground.

Seems a bit odd, although I can imagine that Saints would ahve been desperate to get the cash whereas we would obvioulsy have been worried about the impact on the pitch.

Not many rugby clubs have grounds suitable, so I believe most of the venues will be football grounds. No rugby clubs have 20k + grounds and they'll need double that.

I believe Anfield, Old Trafford, The Emirates and a number ofothers are in the plans.

Should be a good tournament and it will be a shame if we're not part of it. Perhaps we'll get a couple of warm up games.

No, stadium MK and The Reynolds Arena are both Premiership Venues. Apparently.

Madejski doesn't have the transport infrastructure to be considered. Plus there is nothing around the ground apart from 3 fast food outlets and a few shops.

If you are going to fish for a response do it with a touch of intelligence. The Madejski is right next to the M4, within 30 minutes of LHR, not much further from LGW, has a mainline rail station 2-3 miles away (with good bus and taxi connections) a fair sized car park and access to other car parking in the immediate vicinity (the fact that Royals fans hate paying doesn't take away the fact that there are spaces) and so the transport links look easily sellable by all but the worst marketing man. As for the shopping!! Are offering a football stadium or a shopping mall? Add to that a really good hotel and excellent corporate facilities and you have a package that could be sold with ease. The real problem is always the proximity to London.

Where we might agree is that the same logic should apply to Milton Keynes (the proximity, not the quality of the stadium!)

The infrastructure around the stadium us changing fairly quickly - a second hotel just over the road and a third on the card with at least 2 others in easy walking distance. Shops and other facilities in the new Island development. Not quite on a par with Cardiff City Centre but improving !

With the possibility of doing a Paddy's style event there could be potential for a great day !! St Paddy's is seen as one of the top club rugby days anywhere. Shame it's not on the cards.

We were never likely to be a world cup 'city' but I am suprised about the rugby though.
