Just goes to show how careful sportsmen and women need to be about taking medicines. Presumably though they all know that they should take any illness problems to their club doctors and physios rather than just nipping into a chemist.

Didn't another British sportsman (skiier?) do someething similar 2 or 3 years ago and get a hefty ban for it?

Just seems a case of naivetey to me, just go`s to show how careful the modern sportsman/woman has to be. I hope he doesn`t get a hefty ban just for stupidity. Would he still get paid by Sheff utd when he is suspended though?

Sheffield United have suspended Paddy Kenny for failing a drugs test, BBC Radio Sheffield reports.

Kenny tested positive for a banned substance, ephedrine, following last season's Championship play-off semi-final second leg against Preston.

Ephedrine is believed to be present in a chicken balti pie that the Republic of Ireland international is understood to have stuffed down his gob before the game.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper could face a lengthy ban.

The club, the Football Association and UK Sport have so far refused to comment over the matter.

Alain Baxter, a Scottish skier in the Winter Olympics a few years ago in Salt Lake City I think. Finished in the bronze medal position which was nigh on incredible for British skiing, only to fail a drugs test. He had treatment for a cold or something like that, using a nasal spray. He used the American equivalent of Vicks, only the American equivalent had a banned substance in it, whereas the UK version was legal within the doping rules. He was stripped of his bronze medal, and initially given a 3 month ban which was overturned on appeal.

It can be derived from certain and herbs and is used as a traditional chinese medicine as a relaxant and anecdotally improves concentration better than caffeine.

As a drug in the UK it is only available in the UK on prescription.

Not sure what it would be doing in a Chicken Balti Pie of all things...

Skiier was at the Winter Olympics and he lost his bronze medal over the symmetry or otherwise of a tetrahedral carbon. No real ban but no medal either.
