Buying Ajax Tickets

I am off to Amsterdam with a few mates this month and we want to go to the Ajax vs AZ game.

However, I have been told that it’s not so easy getting 'normal' tickets. The only option via the club seems to be the 100euro (or more) tourist package.

We don’t really want to spend that much, so if anyone knows how to get normal tickets for Ajax, or has some 'street knowledge', let me know.

Any info would be appreciated.

Unfortunately it's not easy getting tickets for the big three in the Netherlands. The issue you have there is that firstly the clubs have so many season ticket holders - Feyenoord have their maximum allocation of 45000 for example, and Ajax certainly have a similar amount. Secondly, because of the hooligan problem they've had over the years the clubs have a membership scheme similar to what we have here only with stricter ticketing controls and they don't sell "bog standard" tickets to just anyone. As a result of this they monopolise, and unless you know someone who has a season ticket or membership (like I do at Feyenoord ) you are unlikely to find yourself paying the usual 30-40 Euros for a ticket I'm afraid.

That site's interesting because it says it's a ticketmaster company which is, as far as I'm aware, a legitimate site. I personally wouldn't take a punt, I'd rather go through the club, but if you do go through the site I'd be interested to know if it's legitimate.

FWIW, I've double checked with Ed, my friend in Holland. He will know for certain if it's yay or nay.

I didn't say it was definately legitimate though did I?

I don't know for certain, but I thought Ticketmaster was a legitimate external ticket selling entity, a bit like, say, lastminute.com for your shows and accommodation in London and stuff. Like I said, Ed will know if it's possible to buy tickets through that site.

It is possible to obtain a ticket the way the average Dutch Ajax supporter is used to.

Upon arriving in Holland, call the Ajax Supporters Desk at (020) 311-1444 and press 1 for English and ask whether there will be presale to non-Club Card-holders and if so, when it will begin. There is presale for non-Club Card-holders for many of the home games in domestic competitions against. When presale for non-ClubCard-holders has begun, visit a tobacco shop/kiosk in Amsterdam connected to the TicketBox network and buy your ticket there, prior to game day. If there's no presale for non-Club Card-holders, go to the ticket counter at the Amsterdam ArenA, immediately behind the main entrance. Over there, it is possible to buy a so-called 'Club Card certificate', also referred to as a 'temporary Club Card' (price: 6 euros), plus your game ticket in one transaction. Always check whether 'Club Card certificates' are on sale by calling the Supporters Desk, before making your way to the ArenA.

If the match is not sold out on game day you can usually buy a ticket on game day, at the red box offices near the main entrance of the ArenA. Usually, tickets are sold on game day for games against 'low risk' opponents (SC Heerenveen, NEC, RKC Waalwijk, Roda JC, Willem II) and sometimes for games against 'normal risk opponents' (AZ, NAC Breda, Vitesse, FC Twente, FC Groningen). However, since exceptions to the rule are possible, it is recommended you call the Supporters Desk prior to game day to make sure: (020) 311-1444 and press 1 for English (calling from international location: +31-20-311-1444).

I went to an Ajax game a few years back. My mate just rang up the club and asked about getting tickets. He had to buy a fan card, but it was all sorted over the phone without too much hassle. They can be funny over there though. I went to NEC Nijmegen once, and the ticket office there wouldn't give us a ticket unless we handed over our passports for them to check.


It could be worth eating before you got in. They may have scrapped the scheme now, but when I went you couldn't pay for food & drink with cash. You had to buy a pre-paid card for 10 euro and use that. Or starve.

Obviously different clubs have different ways of doing things, but that is NOT the same at de Kuip.

I managed to get my Barcelona tickets directly from the official site, but strangely you dont get any email confirmation from them, just my bank statement to say money has been taken.

Apparently round ground they have loads of automated ticket machines where you put your debit card in and away you go.

Wicked cheers for info guys, will look to do the temp member card way I reckon. Don't really want to risk these websites.

As for going to Ajax, just because its in Amsterdam, no preference. They were always the Dutch team when growing up, Davids, Seedorf, Kluivert, Overmars, Literman, The De Boers, Reijkard, Kanu, they had a great team then.

We have never been to a game in Holland so is a must for this trip. If we can't get to the Ajax game, we may look at some other team nearby.

Good to games abroad, bit unlikely now for Reading hey!

Been loads of times - the Amsterdam Arena is full swing is one of the top footballing cathederals in the world.
