I remember going to a Reading v Grimsby game at Elm Park and being on TV as Gabriel was doing his filming down Norfolk Road. There's a young NFA - walking behind him getting on TV pulling faces.

Not sure where this myth that Steggall is a Saints fan stems from, presumably from RFC supporters inferiority complex. Steggall is actually a Gills fan, but for me he is as synonymous with the South as Fred Dineage, Sally Taylor, Nick Knowles and Roy 'Mr Cinema' Smith.

Perhaps he did Spacey. I can tell you though that Steggall regularly had loud and ocassionally violent arguments with Sangeeta Bhabra in the Meridian newsroom over the biased coverage of Gillingham. Chris Maughan had to break up one such bust-up by throwing a cup of Andy Craig's cold tea over the pair of them.

That was when ITV had the football league goals show it used to be on really late on a Monday night. Gabrial Clarke used to front it and it just so happened to be the season Reading reached the play off final so we featured quite a few times as the main game.
