Local park football 2010/11

With most local sides completing their summers breaks and meeting up once again for the all important pre-season training sessions, perhaps this is a good time ask which local club your involved with. I myself got involved with Woodley Hammers u18s last season and after winning the East Berks Youth League Division 1 title we applied to the Reading Football League to take our lads into mens football. Last week we found out our application was successful and will embark on our maiden season in Division 4.

So who else in involved in the local park scene, be it player, coach, referee or casual spectator?

Having played for WH u18s myself (nb - not recently) we used to use the pitch which isn't there any more, the one which used to run alongside Haddon Drive with the cricket nets in the corner.

These days Hammers have a Community Partnership with Bulmershe School and as a result hold exclusive rights to a pitch on their playing fields. This pitch boasts a fantastic playing surface that undergoes a costly maintenance programme and is fully enclosed with dugout facilities for both home and away teams. Various age groups used it in its maiden season just gone and it will again host various Hammers home fixtures.

Woodpark Park is still used by the younger age groups and the Sunday sides, as well as other local pitches.

I heard the rumour mentioned at a Hammers' meeting yesterday evening. I played for Saints reserves a few years ago and am shocked that no one has stepped forward to manage the teams! Where are your lads off to this season?
