Probably about right in the end. Barnsley had most of the first half and we looked slow and ponderous, almost nervy. Second half started well with the goal, and after that we looked much more confident. Created a couple of chances, ALF should probably have scored when put through, Morrison I think hit the bar with a header from a corner and we looked good. As the half wore on we sat back a little and let Barnsley back in to it, and the goal came from a bit of penalty box pinball and a neat finish.

Guthrie very good second half, looked knackered when he went off. Would perhaps have liked have seen Sharp brought on earlier. Akpan decent when he came on too.
Brum Royal

We were poor tbh. Way too direct, and on the few occasions we did look to keep the ball on the floor we were very sloppy. By far Baird's worst game for us, Gunter was careless, and Kelly is a depressingly poor substitute for Bridge on the left. Barnsley won just about every second ball tonight...wanted it more than us.

Hal was a positive though, back on form after a bad game on Saturday. McCleary is always a threat when you get him the ball in space, and Pog's new lease of life continued with another decent performance. Not sure what to think at the end of it all though...in the grand scheme of things it could be a decent point as Barnsley were right on it this evening, but if we don't improve pretty markedly by Saturday we'll get a hiding at Turf Moor.

David Flitcroft's side dominated for much of the evening against the Royals, who had won three consecutive games prior to their visit to Oakwell. Barnsley's Jason Scotland shot wide of the post twice in the first half for the home side's best chances, but it was the visitors who went ahead in the 51st minute.

Robson-Kanu's shot from 20 yards out gave Barnsley's on-loan keeper Jack Butland no chance, but the Yorkshire side came close to levelling soon after when Alex McCarthy palmed away a Paddy McCourt effort. Alex Pearce struck the bar for Reading, but Barnsley were rewarded for their improved performance when O'Grady steadied himself before slotting the ball home from inside the Reading area.

Reading manager Nigel Adkins:
"Our mindset was to come for three points. We didn't underestimate the opposition, we have come away from home and I thought our front two were excellent. Barnsley may be where they are but they have brought some good players in and they are going to be a big threat going forward. We came for three points but we have come away with something so credit my players for hanging in there."
