Reading will play Premier League Brentford at home in the third round of the League Cup, with the game scheduled to take place at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Tuesday 15 September with an 8pm kick-off. The additional cup fixture saw the away League One match against local rivals Oxford United postponed, although both teams would now have been free to play on 8 September. There is now no date for the Oxford fixtures.
Brentford were 6-1 winners away from home in their second round fixture on Tuesday night, which followed after their 3-0 Premier League win against Spurs on the opening day of the League season. It is fair to say the Bees have had an impressive start to their new season. The Royals have had to go through two rounds already to get to meet Brentford - the penalty win over Bromley on the first day of the season and Saturday's 3-0 victory at Stevenage.
