Royals Slump To Fourth Defeat In Five

Reading's miserable run of form continued over Christmas, with two more defeats, to make it three consecutive losses and four defeats in five league games. The Royals failed to score in their two festive fixtures - a 0-1 defeat on Boxing Day at Leicester City and a 0-3 stuffing at Middlesbrough yesterday. Reading have now dropped outside the play-off positions and lie in ninth place in the Championship table as an uneventful mid-table season beckons. Reading still remain just a point outside the play-off places but are 14 points off the top of the table.

It was a poor showing at Middlesbrough with even Reading manager Nigel Adkins owning up that "We have not been anywhere near good enough today". Reading were already well beaten at half time, going in two goals down at the break. Seven minutes into the second half it was all over for Reading, as Gorkss was sent off after picking up his second booking of the game. Reading did have a brief bright spell and it took a penalty from the home side inside the last ten minutes to wrap up an easy victory for Middlesbrough.
