Shorey Overtakes McCarthy As Best Performer

Nicky Shorey has overtaken Alex McCarthy at the top of the best performer table after McCarthy continues his enforced absence through injury. With Federici back in goal, after McCarthy injured his shoulder against QPR, it's allowed the continued excellent showings of Nicky Shorey to take him to the top of the pile in the Hob Nob Anyone? man of the match voting. While Shorey continues to pick up votes, Sean Morrison was named man of the match after Reading's first win of the season against Everton earlier this month. Morrison moves third into the list that counts up votes across all games throughout the season. Morrison's one of just a few players who have impressed this season - his performances have attracted the attention of the press who are linking him with a possible transfer to Arsenal when the transfer window opens again for business in January.

McCarthy will again have to sit it out as Reading's travel to Aston Villa tonight in a vital game at the bottom of the table. Reading are unlikely to have any players returning from injury - so Kebe, Guthrie and Karacan are expected to miss out. Villa have just come out of a tough run of games after picking up a point over three games against Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United. Villa were stuffed 0-5 by City but lead United by two goals before going down 2-3. Their recent point against Arsenal sets them up for the visit of Reading where they will be favourites for victory. Reading will of course be on the hunt for just their second league win of the season - yet another big ask.
