Reading Sign A Player!

12 August 2021
By Hob Nob Anyone?

Midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru has signed for Reading on a years loan from Premier League Watford. Tom is Reading's first signing of the summer and joins the Royals in time to be included in the squad for Saturday's first home League game of the season as we face Preston North End. Dele-Bashiru appears to be a very exciting young prospect and he joins Reading looking to kick-start his career that has so far failed to get going due to injury.

He came through the Manchester City youth set-up and made a single appearance for City in the league cup before securing a long term contract with Watford. In his first season at Watford he failed to break into the team and played just three times in the League and FA Cups. He scored his only goal of his career so far in the FA Cup in January 2020 when he played all of a 3-3 draw with Tranmere. Last season he was limited to just two appearances in the Championship - first coming off the bench in a 1-0 home win over Luton in September 2020, and then making his first league start for the Hornets the following week against the Royals. The Royals went on to win that game 1-0, but for Dele-Bashiru the result was the least of his worries as he picked up a anterior cruciate ligament injury that kept him out for the rest of the season.

Tom Dele-Bashiru comes to Reading with plenty of potential and will be keen to impress. He is described by Reading manager Veljko Paunovic as "a very creative, clever, talented young player who adds much-needed strength to our midfield." With Reading looking to rely on academy players to play their part this season, he is likely to come straight into the first team squad where we hope he can make a big impact. Welcome to the club Tom!

When we reach the Premiership and lose our opening 5 games. Either that or when we are too close to the relegation zone (won't happen! believe me!)

Please now! Can't sign a named player to save his life, couldnt even sign Powell. Damaged all the enthusiasm of the club and damaged the half decent football we used to play. Added to this players have lost confidence- Harper, Murty, etc

That doesn't mean he won't buy excellent players! How do you know he hasn't got Lita lined up or Aliaderie (spelling?) coming on loan to Reading? There's still a month to go before the start of the season people! Give him a little more time!

Because Lita said he wants to stay at Bristol City, and Aliaderie is on loan at Celtic. Coppell just can't attract bigger name players to the club like Pardew could. Pardew's era was about ambition and success, whereas Coppell's is about doing things on the cheap, and maintaining where we are.

Ok then just replace those names with people like Owusu-Abeyie from Arsenal and Chopra

Yes and they are great players with loadsa experience arent they! We just have to face the fact that we cant sign players who have been there and done it before (except les and martin), Coppell is struggling to sign quality players who are leagues lower than us. No one put in a bid for Parkin until recently, we couldve snapped him up at least a month ago.

Yeah, cos Parkin has loadsa experience in the Championship! At least Chopra has been there and done it before in the old division 1 with Watford, maybe Owusu-Abeyie could help. Surely you get the point by now! There's a month till the league starts and we still have a possibility of signing good players, but all you lot seem to be obsessed that we have only signed 3 players so far! What happens if they become bargains of the season?! At least have some optimism in the team we have at the moment!

agreed, coppell is crap in the transfer market and can't attract players! as soon as we get rid of him and bring in a lively goood motivational manager the better. The club is boring me to death at the moment and so is coppell.

Which "big name" players did Pardew attract to us since we've been in the Championship (which is the only fair comparison to make)?
Goater?

Murray?
Struggling now. Care to help out?
What we could do in "League 1" a few years back is wholly irrelevant now. We were small fish in a big pond then, but now we're relative small fry in with the big boys.

25th May 2011, after our 2nd Champions League win in a row. When interviewed afterwards he says: "Yeah, y'know 3 in a row would've been nice, but I think it's time to give someone else a go now..."

After the way he walked out on Man City after just 33 days in charge; I'm suprised he's lasted this long and have to say that if were to walk out on us tomorrow it would have come about 18 months too late for my liking.

He just signed an extension to his contract. He won't be sacked and he won't walk. And exactly WHO is there who is free to take over from him, should he go anyway? Better the devil you know sometimes.

Very true. Madejski wouldn't want to "poach" a manager from another club so to speak after the whole Pardew affair.

Luke Chadwick

Matthew Upson

Steve Sidwell was building a name for himself at this level and that was an ambitious signing.

Sadly doing things on the cheap is likely to mean we won't stay where we are.
