Free Agent Brandon Barker Signs

15 February 2022
By Hob Nob Anyone?

Reading have completed the signing of Brandon Barker until the end of the season. Barker was without a club after leaving Rangers by mutual consent last month. He is a forward left player and comes to Reading after playing just 67 minutes of first team football all season. His only appearance this season came in a Scottish FA Cup fixture against Stirling - a 4-0 home win.

Rangers signed the player in 2019 for 300,000 pounds from Manchester City where he made a single appearance from the bench in an FA Cup game. He fell out of favour last season and spent the season on loan at League One Oxford. At Oxford he played 22 times and scored three goals as his side finished in the play-off positions.

Anyone heard of Brandon?!

Ex Man City and Rangers - 25 year old left winger.

Scored Oxford’s goal of the season last year…….

We desperately need a Winston Reid type character. Not this guy. Presumably Ejaria is out for a good while yet.

What an odd signing. I thought we’d get an experienced CB.

Lowdown on Barker:

- Very Quick but limited end product
- Often tries too much but can leave a defender for dead.
- Ok crossing ability.
- Didnt play much for us, more a benchwarmer
- Not a flashy player but very direct.
- Was on loan at Oxford and done very well

Maybe it is a very cheap option that could be used as an impact player off the bench with one eye towards L1 if we do go down (based on his performances for Oxford). Which would actually be pretty decent planning by the club.

well thats what the HNA board has been asking for for years, so lets see how it goes :)

Can only assume that a CB is still in the pipeline but is yet to be confirmed yet.

This doesn't really make a great deal of sense, but might do if we go down and we keep him on and we can't keep the likes of Hoilett and/or Halilovic on next season.

I’m sure Vic will be especially happy  Although it was something I repeatedly called for too

Still, if it that’s the end of TDB in that left attacking midfield role, its already a plus point

Need to start preparing for next season following the mass scramble to leave in the summer.

So the manager was apparently leaving but instead we've signed a player?

This season just keeps on giving.

Poor barsteward should get a new agent! Imagine being handed a short term contract here at this time........its like being a stand up comedian at a wake for a couple of murdered kids.

now sign another player we dont need

 Royal_jimmy

» 15 Feb 2022 15:27

He's not a bad player and can do a job for us. If we go down he could be re-signed if he does ok

I mean, could be a good signing for next season even if we stay up. We're going to be under restrictions for another season after all.

yeah not against it as such. It is a plan b (if we ever stop using failing plan a) and I've no issue with him coming in. Will be cheap, and if he does well will prob sign for next year. Just a bit odd timing

who tf is this prick

Potentially a good signing, he has a lot of the raw attributes to be a very good winger.

checked out the youtube vid from his time at oxford. Looks ok, some nice goals and assists. Does look pretty direct. Not sure he'll exactly excel at Champ level but at least he is fit (hopefully) and can provide an option. Looks nicely two footed.

Youtube videos will definitely always be reliable.

We don't need him, we don't want him, he is a waste of money and his signing has been done purely to distract us. The club stinks.

Hopefully for good.

all it was was his goals and assists from last year for oxford. So not really sure how that can be spun.
